National Chocolate Milkshake Day, September 12th.

Yes, there is such a thing as National Chocolate Milkshake Day! I have to admit, I’m not much of a history buff, and am definitely a conversation disappointment if you were to ask me to discuss just about anything history related. However, when I learned today that it was National Chocolate Milkshake Day, I had to do some research!

Milkshakes as we know them became popular in 1920s and 1930s.

I learned according to nationaldaycalendar.com that the term “milkshake” first appeared in print in 1885. During that time, “milkshake” referred to an alcoholic beverage blended with eggs, whiskey, and other ingredients, similar to an eggnog type of drink. How interesting!

Pharmacies would serve this drink as a tonic and a treat to customers. In the early 1900’s customers began to ask for a scoop of ice cream to be added. Then the electric blender and drink mixer was invented in 1922 leading us to the frothy, chipped, and aerated form we know today. By the 1920’s and 1930s, milkshakes became a popular drink at malt shops everywhere.

So, what am I going to do with this new found history information?? I’m going to share with you my recipe for an Easy LEANWell Chocolate Milkshake. It’s thick, creamy, dreamy, indulgent, and nutritious! Packed with Protein, Fiber, healthy fats, and antioxidants, you will find yourself craving them often. Plus, guess what? You can make it even when it’s not National Chocolate Milkshake Day and feel zero guilt about it. How about that?

Here it is, hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Easy LEANWell Chocolate Milkshake:

· 4 oz frozen ripe banana

· 2 tbsp creamy MaraNatha Almond butter, no sugar or salt added.

· 1tbsp organic Cacao powder, I used Better Body Foods brand found at Walmart.

· 1 cup of cold Silk unsweetened Almond milk.

Add all ingredients to a high powered blender and mix well until creamy. If you need more sweetener, add more banana, if you need richer chocolate, add more cacao. If you need it a little thicker, then add ice. You can add your own spin on it like adding strawberries for a chocolate strawberry shake, whipped cream with a cherry on top, a little extra chocolate chips, or peanut butter sauce, or how about mint for a rich mint chocolate shake? Whatever you choose, have fun with it and tell us all about it! We love sharing ideas that inspires others to try them out, and then put their own spin on it!
