September 25th, 2019-National Women's Health and Fitness Day

I just love to follow calendars that list all of the National Holidays. They sometimes inspire me to learn about other cultures, to try a new food, to participate in a new activity, or to blog about a new fun topic!

National Women's Health and Fitness is the last Wednesday of September each year. What a great holiday to re-focus on healthy habits, refresh your fitness goals, or start new ones!

How can you observe this special day? Here's a few ideas that may help spark a new interest for you:

  • Join a walking or running group, or create one if you can't find one. I love the Nextdoor app for things like this. You can put out a message to your local neighborhood expressing interest to start a group with your neighbors! What a great way to get to know your neighbors, and to already have something in common by living near each other.

  • Plan a family outing at your local playground. Spend at least 25 minutes playing, climbing, and just being silly with your kids.

  • Start up a game of tennis, basketball, volleyball, or swim laps for a low impact option.

  • Join a workshop about food choices, portion control and label reading to improve your overall nutrition.   • Attend a Yoga class to help improve flexibility, and also your mental health by reducing stress. Your local YMCA or Wellness Center should have plenty of options for you in your area, just Google it!

  • Get your friends together for a group fitness class or workout session, take a picture to celebrate the moment and post to social media with #WomensHealthFitnessDay

  • Consider joining a Prayer Group or Bible Study at your local church. Spiritual health is part of your overall health too.

50 Dumbbell Squats

45 Push Ups

40 Alternating Lunges

35 Bent Over Barbell Rows (Underhand)

30 Skaters

25 Barbell Clean and Press

20 Butt- Ups (Plank into Pike)

15 Burpees

10 Down Dog into Up Dog stretch combos

Once you complete this workout, post your picture on social media with #leanwelltwitchworkout and #womenshealthfitnessday.

Be silly, have fun with fitness, inspire your friends to do the same!

No matter how you celebrate this day, consider this, the time is going to pass whether you spend it wisely or not.

Take the time today to incorporate a new healthy choice that will possibly spark a whole new passion for health and fitness that you never could have imagined you would have. Encourage your friends and family to do the same. Then step back and observe the ripple effect of healthy choices all around you!!
